In this 21st century, it amazes me that there are still so many people who are so close-minded that they cannot or will not view an online friendship with the same level of respect as an in-person friendship. I realize, though, that many of these people are generally older and grew up in an age before technology facilitated social connections like it does now. But with the ever-expanding reach of technology into the social environment, it only makes sense that we utilize this technology to built more meaningful relationships.

Far from being the bottomless pit of oddballs and potential serial killers, the Internet is full of lively minded, like-minded engaging people – for the first time in history we’re lucky enough to be able to choose friends not by location or luck, but locate perfect friends by rounding up people with amazingly similar interests, matching politics, or senses of humor. The friends I have now might be spread wide, geographically, but I’m closer to them than most of the people I went to school with, by about a million miles.

Just musing over the differences in the skylines of these two cities…

Just a little mid-week Apple-humor. I promise this is the ONLY Apple/iPad/iPhone/technology post today (ahem, Tricia! ;) )

iPad vs. Kindle vs. a rock

I came across this video on YouTube while searching for funny things captured on live TV.

This is a live interview with a wealth advisor at an Australian bank on an Australian TV channel. If you notice the computer screen just left of the guy’s ear, you’ll see several nude (don’t worry kids, you can’t really see anything here you won’t find in .000025 seconds on Google) images pop up on the screen.

It appears that another banker, unaware he’s on camera, is opening up those naughty emails his buddy sent him. I don’t think anyone was paying attention to the interview… ;)

Hopefully this will act as a a reminder to all organizations – no matter how strict your Internet policy is, it is worthless if adherence to it is not properly monitored. Fortunately, at my workplace, even a visit to Twitter or Facebook will send up a red-flag, if they’re not blocked!

I know I’ve posted this video once before, but it’s been a while and I just saw it on TV again, and I can’t help but chucking every single time I see it. These rockin-out hamsters are so funny!

I haven’t been able to think of anything interesting to write about lately. Perhaps some of my readers can prod my mind into being creative again by suggesting something you want me to write about? What would you like my opinion or thoughts on? Suggest a topic in the comments and I’ll do my best to make ya proud! :D

New Site Theme!

by Josh Gard on January 31, 2010 · Comments

Today, I launched a new theme for my site, The Josh Gard Project, that I built entirely from scratch, using the wonderful Thesis framework running on WordPress. Yes, I’ve moved my site back to WordPress where it will be staying for some time (until something better than WordPress comes along…).

So what do you think of it? What do you like or don’t like? Leave me a comment with your feedback!

I've used nearly 3,000 text messages so far this billing cycle. Good thing I have unlimited!! :)
